In Kaltennordheim, in the Wartburg district of Thuringia, stands Kaltennordheim Castle, a building that today serves as a cultural attraction. Originally built as a fortified complex, it evolved into an administrative seat and continues to shape the townscape of Kaltennordheim.

History+

In the High Middle Ages, the upper Feldatal valley was under the rule of the Counts of Neidhartshausen. After their extinction, a defensive structure near Klings and Fischbach became the administrative seat of the region. During this time, a castle complex was also built in Kaltennordheim, presumably serving as the residence of a ministerialis in the service of the Hennebergers. The castle was first documented on August 8, 1350, when it was sold to the abbot of Fulda Monastery. As early as 1366, Knight Henze von Allendorf acquired the castle. The following decades were marked by renovations.
