Kammerberg Castle

Kammerberg Castle is a castle in Kammerberg in the municipality of Fahrenzhausen. Kammerberg is first mentioned in documents between 1006 and 1029 as "Perga". The local noble family of "Chammerberger", descended from the Lords of Hohenkammer, served the Bavarian dukes as ministerials from the 13th to the 15th century, primarily acting as judges and administrators. Kammerberg became the seat of a Hofmark, which belonged to the Kranzberg district court. Successors to the Chammerberger were the Barons of Freyberg, as well as von Preysing and von Bünau. The current castle was rebuilt after a fire in 1609 in the 17th/18th century and was originally a four-wing complex. The complex was rebuilt several times. The west wing was newly built in 1790, the south wing was redesigned in a classical style after 1828. The castle is now surrounded by a moat. In 1814, it was acquired by Karl Friedrich von Paur (1780-1854), the postmaster of Unterbruck. Since 1826, the Barons of Vequel-Westernach have lived in the castle.
