Kapell Castle is located in Niederkappel in the Rohrbach district of Upper Austria. Today, it serves as a rectory.

History+

The origins of Kapell Castle date back to around 1280, when Ulrich von Capellen commissioned its construction. At that time, Kapell was a fief of the Prince-Bishopric of Passau. In 1562, it was assigned to the dominion of Berg near Rohrbach. Later, the Lords of Raspen took over the estate, with Ulrich Raspen serving as administrator of Liebenstein in 1397. During the Peasants' Wars, the castle was set on fire. Following this destruction, it was partially demolished and converted into a rectory, a process that took place after 1626 under Erasmus von Rödern.
