Kapell Castle
The former Kapell Castle is located in the municipality of Niederkappel in the Rohrbach district of Upper Austria (Niederkappel No. 5). Today it serves as the rectory of the municipality.
Around the year 1280, the castle was built under Ulrich von Capellen. Capellen was then a Passau fief and came under the rule of Berg near Rohrbach in 1562. Successors were the Lords of Raspen. Ulrich Raspen was the administrator of Liebenstein in 1397. The castle was set on fire during the Peasants' Wars. Afterwards, it was partially demolished and converted into a building serving as a rectory. The renovation, which took place after 1626, was carried out by its owner Erasmus von Rödern.
Kapell Castle Today+
The baroque building stands next to the church of Niederkappel, it is two-story and covered with a hip roof, the outer walls are covered with a coarse pebble dash in yellow color. A round arch forms the connection to the former farm buildings. The windows on the ground floor and first floor are differently designed with stucco frames. On the ground floor, they are protected by a wrought-iron grille.
