History+

The origins of Karlslust Castle date back to the late 18th century. After the dominion of Kaja passed to Karl Josef Prince Auersperg through inheritance, construction of the castle in his hunting grounds began in 1795. Franz Xaver Pollnfürst from Vienna was responsible as the master builder. The exterior was completed quickly, and by 1798, a wildlife park was laid out around the estate. The interior decoration was finished by 1801, with Heinrich Fischer mentioned as the interior architect and Johann Georg Böhm for the stucco work.
