History of the Castle
The origin of the castle lies in an old fortress, which was mentioned in 1157 as being in the possession of Wilradus von Carlstettin. In 1683, the castle was destroyed by the Turks and rebuilt as a palace in 1728 by Baron von Lassberg. Further owners included the Lords of Zinzendorf, in 1913 the Barons von Suttner, from 1920-38 the Franck family, and since 1955 the market town of Karlstetten.
