Karow Castle

The origins of the Karow settlement date back to the 9th century, indicating a Slavic settlement. In the 12th century, Germanic immigrants arrived, and a Bartholomäus de Chare is mentioned as the founder of the place. The village was first documented as Kare in 1191 or 1193. By the 14th century at the latest, Karow belonged to the Archbishopric of Magdeburg. The Karow manor had various owners, including the von Caro, von Alvensleben, and von Bardeleben families. In 1708, Grand Marshal Marquard Ludwig von Printzen acquired the estate and began construction of the baroque manor house and the completion of Karow Church. After his death, the estate passed to his son and later to his daughter Elisabeth Luise Sophie, who married Wilhelm Friedrich Heinrich Ferdinand Graf von Wartensleben. The von Wartensleben family owned the estate until its expropriation in 1945.
