History of the Manor House+
From the Middle Ages to the 19th Century+
The first documented mention of the manor house dates back to 1236. At that time, it was a fortified castle, strategically located on a hill overlooking the river. Over the centuries, the castle underwent several transformations, evolving from a medieval fortress into a Renaissance palace and later into a Baroque manor house.
Early Owners and Architectural Changes
In the early 15th century, the von Maltzan family acquired the estate. Subsequently, ownership changed frequently – Vollrath Pleen, the von Kalden family, the von Burkersroda family, the von Moltke family, the Holz family, the Baessler family, and Baroness Brockdorff are named as owners. The last owners of the estate until their forced expropriation and expulsion by the communists in 1945 were the Schulz family. In the mid-1990s, the house was restored and is now in private ownership.
The 20th Century and Beyond+
The 20th century brought significant changes to the manor house. During World War II, it suffered damage but was subsequently partially restored. Under communist rule, it served various public functions, including a school and administrative offices. After the reunification of Germany, the manor house was returned to private hands and underwent extensive renovation.
Restoration and Current Use
Today, the manor house stands as a testament to its rich history, blending elements from different architectural periods. It is privately owned and occasionally opens its doors for cultural events and guided tours, allowing visitors to experience its unique charm and historical significance.
