Kislau Castle
Kislau Castle, a historic structure in Bad Mingolsheim, Baden-Württemberg, stands at approximately 111 meters above sea level. Originally a medieval moated castle, it was transformed into a baroque hunting lodge in the 18th century and now serves as a correctional facility.
History+
The origins of Kislau date back to the 11th century, when the Lords of Kislau were first documented. The complex, whose name derives from “pebbly meadow,” was already a Roman fort in ancient times. In the 13th century, ownership passed to the Prince-Bishopric of Speyer, serving as an administrative seat for over 400 years. During the Peasants' War in 1525, rebellious farmers were imprisoned here, and some leaders were executed.
