Klebing Castle

Klebing Castle is located in the municipality of Pleiskirchen in the district of Altötting.

The name of the village Klebing first appears in the 15th century with the noble family Reuter von Klebing, who are mentioned as residents there in the land registers from 1463 to 1528. The Hofmark Klebing was united with the seat of Güntering. It is not entirely certain whether Klebing was a fief of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. It is presumed that a Pleidolf von Brucke, the founder of the parish and church of Pleidolfskirchen, is also the founder of the predecessor building of Klebing Castle; this Pleidolf is attested several times in Salzburg documents from 1090 to 1150. Much earlier, the seat of Güntering, also located in today's municipality of Pleiskirchen, is mentioned. It is mentioned as a ministerial seat in the traditions of Baumburg Monastery dating from 1190 under the name Goutheringen. Meginhard von Güntering, who acted as a witness here, was presumably a ministerialis of the Ortenburg family or of Count Heinrich von Dornberg, who died in 1224; the latter bequeathed his estates in Klebing to the Salzburg church. In 1220, a Heinrich von Güntering is mentioned as a witness in the Ranshofen traditions during a property transfer. In the Raitenhaslach burial book for the year 1276, a Wilhelm von Güntering as well as a Hartwic and his son Ortloff, who died in 1288, are mentioned. In 1304, a Haug von Güteringen and his son Ortolf sold two estates in Aichelberg to the abbot of Raitenhaslach. In 1343, the death of the forester Hans von Gunthering, who was in ducal service, is also mentioned. In Philipp Apian's topography, Klebing is referred to as nobilis dominus.
