South of Wipfeld, Klingenberg Castle, a historic three-winged complex, stands on a ridge. Its history dates back to the 13th century.

History+

Klingenberg Castle was first documented in 1230. It served as an administrative seat for the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the complex was completely destroyed. Under Prince-Bishop Konrad III von Bibra, the castle was rebuilt by 1543. In 1792, the administrative seat was moved to Schwanfeld. The municipality of Wipfeld acquired Klingenberg in 1805, before it passed into private ownership in 1829 and changed hands multiple times in the following decades. After World War II, Dürkopp-Werke AG Bielefeldt used the castle as a recreational facility for its employees. Since the 1970s, it has once again served as a family residence.
