Klingenstein Castle

Klingenstein Castle is located in the municipality of Vasoldsberg in the political district of Graz-Umgebung in Eastern Styria, Austria.

The castle is situated northeast of Hausmannstätten on an elongated, steeply sloping ridge that stretches from the Ferbes Valley to the Kerscheck.

The castle developed from a farm that was owned by Ulrich Chlingsteiner in the first half of the 16th century. In 1626, under Regina Globitzerin, née von Greissenegg, the farm was expanded into a noble residence. After Globitzerin's emigration due to her Protestant faith, the noble estate, along with the Vasoldsberg lordship, was sold by her husband Hans Albrecht to Stainz Abbey. In 1635, Christof Moritz Freiherr von Herberstein regained Klingenstein Manor after he was able to reverse the exchange of goods.
