In the town of Klingnau in the canton of Aargau stands Klingnau Castle. Its origins date back to the 13th century, and it served as a seat for various lords.

The history of Klingnau Castle begins in the 13th century, shortly after the founding of the town of Klingnau on December 26, 1239. Ulrich von Klingen, the town's founder, had a residential tower built, which laid the foundation for the later castle. In 1269, his son Walther sold the town and the castle to the Bishop of Constance. The castle subsequently served as a residence for the bailiffs of the Diocese of Constance and occasionally for the bishop himself. By the 16th century, the building was in severe disrepair, leading to its complete reconstruction in 1582.
