Klöden Castle

The early history of Klöden Castle is linked to Apel Vitzthum the Elder, who owned it until 1439. Vitzthum, known as the “evil counselor” of Duke Wilhelm of Saxony, played a role in the Saxon Fratricidal War between 1446 and 1451. After his time, the castle passed to the noble family of Honsberg from Meißen through an exchange involving Lichtenwalde near Chemnitz, and they held it for several decades. Since 2005, the Förderverein Burg Klöden e.V. has been involved in the preservation and museum presentation of the castle.
