Kochberg Castle

The origins of Kochberg Castle date back to 1380, when a moated castle at this location was first mentioned. The oldest surviving part of the building is the "Hohe Haus" (High House) in the southeast. A detailed description from 1659 reports a spring in the castle park and a square moat fed by a mountain pond, as well as a drawbridge as the only access. In the 17th century, the current "Hohe Haus" in the west was built in the Renaissance style. The noble family of Kochberg is documented as early as the 13th century. After the death of Hartmann von Kochberg in 1506, the castle passed through marriage to Siegfried von Schönberg and later through sale to Balthasar von Kochberg. From 1733, the Barons von Stein-Kochberg owned the estate.
