Königshaus am Schachen Castle

King Ludwig II of Bavaria had the King's House built between 1869 and 1872. The plans for the timber-framed building in chalet style were drawn by Georg Dollmann. Although often referred to as a hunting lodge, the king had no passion for hunting. Ludwig II used the estate to celebrate his name day and birthday, August 25th. He had himself driven up a specially constructed road, today known as the Königsweg, by horse-drawn carriage or sleigh. The ground floor contains simple rooms such as the living room, study, and bedroom, while the upper floor houses a magnificent Turkish Room, designed after the model of oriental palaces.
