A structure from the late 18th century, Königswartha Castle is located on the southern edge of the eponymous village in the Bautzen district. It is currently used as a vocational school for inland fisheries, in the water-rich Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Region.

History+

The origins of Königswartha trace back to the 13th century, when a moated castle existed on this site. This complex served as a royal watchtower, securing an important road. In 1238, Suidegerus de Warta was mentioned as an inhabitant, and in 1268, the castle passed to the von Schreibersdorf family. Between 1350 and 1550, it was owned by the Lords of Pannewitz. After several changes of ownership, including the von Paschen and von Ponickau families, two estates were merged in 1626. The Saxon Elector sold the manor in 1661 to Hans Adolph von Haugwitz. Through inheritance, the property later came to Anna Katharina, married to Gottlob Christian Vitzthum von Eckstädt.
