Körtlinghausen Castle

The origins of Körtlinghausen date back to the 14th century, when a stone castle with a moat existed on this site. The property was initially divided between the von Schorlemer and von Rüdenberg families. In 1398, the von Lürwald family acquired a share, and in 1447, after a period of sole ownership by the Rüdenbergs, they became the sole proprietors. Shortly thereafter, the property passed to the von Hanxleden family. In 1614, Körtlinghausen came into the possession of the von Westrem family, before being owned by the von Weichs family from 1645 to 1819. The current castle was built in 1714 under Chief Forester Franz Otto von und zu Weichs, based on plans by Justus Wehmer.
