The Manor House of Buseck, also known as Buseck Castle, is a historic building in the municipality of Buseck in Hesse, Germany. It is a former moated castle that was converted into a manor house in the 18th century. The building is a protected cultural monument.

The history of the Manor House of Buseck dates back to the Middle Ages. A moated castle was first mentioned in documents in 1250. It served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Buseck, a powerful knightly family in the Wetterau region.

Medieval Castle

The medieval castle was a typical moated castle with a main castle and an outer bailey. It was surrounded by a moat and thick walls. Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, especially during the Thirty Years' War.

Conversion to a Manor House

In the 18th century, the Lords of Buseck decided to convert the dilapidated castle into a representative manor house. The conversion took place between 1710 and 1717 under the direction of the architect Johann Philipp Hofmann. The moats were filled in, and the old walls were replaced by a baroque palace building.

The Manor House of Buseck is a two-story baroque building with a mansard roof. The facade is adorned with rich stucco decorations and a central risalit. The interior of the manor house is also characterized by baroque elements, such as ornate ceilings and fireplaces.

The manor house is now privately owned and cannot be visited.
