Kreisbach Castle

The first documented mention of Kreisbach Castle dates back to 1172. It was built by Dietericus I. de Crewspach at the end of the 12th century and served as the ancestral seat for the Lords of Kreisbach. The complex was once surrounded by a castle wall and featured four towers. The castle changed hands multiple times, belonging to families such as the Hohenberger, Roggendorfer, and Jörger. In 1625, it became the property of Lilienfeld Abbey. Since 1999, the Kreisbach Castle Cultural Association has been dedicated to the renovation and revitalization of the castle, signing a 99-year lease agreement with Lilienfeld Abbey in 2000. A change to the surroundings occurred in 2001 with the opening of a bypass road, which relieved traffic that previously passed directly through the castle gate.
