Krickenbeck Castle (Hinsbeck)

The origins of Krickenbeck date back to the 12th century, when Heinrich, Count of Krickenbeck, owned an older castle approximately two kilometers south of the current site. After the extinction of his family and the sale of the castle in 1243 to Otto of Geldern, a new castle complex was built on the current site around the mid-13th century. In 1604, Krickenbeck Castle was mentioned in the marriage contract of Arnold von Wachtendonk and Anna Salome von Holthausen. The castle experienced its heyday from 1623 under Imperial Count Johann Friedrich II von Schaesberg, who had it converted into a Baroque manor house by Simon del Sarto between 1708 and 1721. Another conversion into a Neo-Gothic castle took place from 1856 to 1860 under Count Rudolf von Schaesberg.
