Krönnevitz Castle

Krönnevitz lies in peace and seclusion, a few kilometers west of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1268 as "Cranouis". The place name probably goes back to a personal name, because towards the end of the 13th century, families with the name Crane were settled here. Part of the estate was at that time owned by the monastery of Neuenkamp, today's Franzburg, whose abbot also transferred part of the property to the monastery of Hiddensee. In 1696, three families shared ownership: Regiment Quartermaster Heinrich Bahr, Bailiff Johann Sodemann, and the widow of Major Abraham Elver zu Preetz, Maria Elisabeth von Sydo. Around 1937, the estate was owned by Werner Freiherr von Klot-Trautvetter, and in 1939, Egbert Freiherr von Maltzahn owned the estate. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed by the communists. The neoclassical manor house, which lies amidst an extensive park, was built in the mid-19th century. After reunification, the municipality sold the building to Hanna and Dipl. Kfm. Gerd Eujen, Emden, who had it extensively renovated starting in 1995. Stylish holiday and rental apartments were created in the manor house.
