Kronburg Castle

The origins of Kronburg Castle date back to the period after 1200, when a Staufer ministerialis family built the first castle. The first documented mention appears in 1227 with Rudolf von Cronburg. After the end of the Staufer era around 1268, the Lords of Kronburg lost their property, which passed into Habsburg hands around 1273 and was subsequently granted as a pledge. In 1370, Kronburg suffered damage during a feud. In 1460, Hans von Werdenstein acquired the property, which was in a ruinous state at the time. After his death, the property passed to Georg von Rechberg, who began its reconstruction. His son Gaudenz von Rechberg completed the transformation into the current castle complex by 1536. After the male line of the Rechbergs died out in 1604 and inheritance disputes arose, the castle was forcibly taken in 1616.
