Kürn Castle

In 1197, the Nobles of Kürn were first mentioned. In 1266, the castle was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. In 1299, the castle was mentioned as "castrum dictum Churn" in the possession of the Lords of Kürn. In 1394, the Lords of Kürn sold the castle and the lordship of Kürn to the Paulsdorfers and retreated to their castle Kürnberg near Stamsried, where they soon died out. In 1689, the castle caught fire due to a lightning strike and was destroyed. A new building was erected. In 1825, the castle burned down again and was sold in 1826 to the Knights of Stransky. They rebuilt the castle in Neoclassical forms. In 1830, ownership changed to Count Wilderich von Waldersdorff. In 1955, Kürn Castle became the residence of Imperial Count Leopold von Waldersdorff.
