Kürnbach Castle, a historic structure originally conceived as a moated castle, stands on the eastern edge of Kürnbach in Baden-Württemberg. It is now privately owned.

History+

The castle's origins date back to the Middle Ages when it served as a moated castle. Between 1181 and 1227, the Lords of Kürnbach were recorded as local nobles and castle lords. In 1266, the castle passed into the possession of the Lords of Liebenstein, followed by the Lords of Katzenelnbogen before 1380. From 1380, the Knights of Balzhofen and later the Knights of Sternenfels took over the complex. Until the mid-19th century, the castle was owned by the Grand Dukes of Hesse before it transitioned into private ownership.
