Kunreuth Castle is a complex on the northwestern edge of the village of the same name. Originally a fortified castle, it developed into a palace.

History+

The first documented mention of a castle in Kunreuth dates back to 1409, when it was a Bamberg fief owned by the Lords of Egloffstein. As early as 1420, the complex was conquered and plundered in a feud between Margrave Friedrich I of Brandenburg and Duke Ludwig VII of Bavaria-Ingolstadt. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the castle suffered damage but was immediately rebuilt by the Lords of Egloffstein. Another destruction occurred in 1553 during the Second Margrave War by Margrave Albrecht Alcibiades, who had the castle garrison executed despite assurances of free withdrawal.
