Laacherhof Castle

The history of Laacher Hof, on whose grounds the castle stands, dates back to the 13th century, when agriculture was already practiced there. In 1886, Arthur Freiherr von Eppinghoven acquired the farm, before selling it in 1909 to the then mayor and pastor of Dinslaken. Clemens August Engels took over the farm in 1910 and had the current Schloss Laacherhof built in 1911. Between 1932 and 1938, the castle was owned by Vice Chancellor Franz von Papen. From 1940, the Rhein-Wupper district used the property first as a recreation home for miners and later as a retirement home. After a period of use by a specialized agency, the building was restored in the 2000s and converted into a residential complex with condominiums from 2008.
