In Zierenberg, in the district of Kassel, Hesse, Laar Castle is an estate that blends into the North Hessian landscape. It is situated in a valley surrounded by forests.

History+

The first documented mention of the Laar estate dates back to 1322, when it was owned by the von der Malsburg family. They sold the property at the end of the 17th century, specifically in 1688 or 1691, to the Hessian Landgrave Karl. The ownership of the estate changed hands several times until it was acquired by Wilhelm von Starck in 1901. The current Laar Castle was built around 1790 on the southern edge of the property. The associated farm buildings date from 1565 and 1599.
