Southeast of the village of the same name in the Austrian Burgenland stands Lackenbach Castle, a former moated castle.

History+

The origins of Lackenbach Castle date back to the mid-16th century. Between 1548 and 1552, Erasmus Teuffl had the original moated castle built. Under Archbishop Nicolaus Oláh, the complex was expanded, with architect Geronimo Mariano involved. In 1618, the castle became the property of Count Nikolaus Esterházy, whose family influenced it for a long time. A fire in 1806 partially damaged the castle, after which the northwest wing was not rebuilt.

Lackenbach Castle is located in the municipality of Lackenbach in the Oberpullendorf district, in the federal state of Burgenland, Austria. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 302 meters above sea level.
