Laibach Castle

The origins of Laibach Castle date back to 1307, when the then-fortress was first mentioned and owned by the Lords of Aschhausen. From 1422, ownership passed to the Lords of Berlichingen, who held it as a Limpurg fief. In 1471, the castle was conquered and destroyed by Count Palatine Friedrich, as it was considered a robber baron's nest. The Capler von Oedheim, also known as Bautz, acquired the manor in 1607 and sold it in 1615 to Erhard von Muggenthal, a Mainz official from Bavaria. Under his patronage, a reconstruction in Renaissance style took place between 1615 and 1629, transforming it into a three-story, four-winged complex.
