Laibach Castle

Laibach Castle is a former castle complex in Laibach, a village in the municipality of Dörzbach in the Hohenlohekreis (Baden-Württemberg).

The castle was mentioned in 1307 and was owned by the Lords of Aschhausen. From 1422, the castle and the hamlet of Laibach were owned by the Lords of Berlichingen as a Limpurg fief. In 1471, the castle was conquered and destroyed by Count Palatine Friedrich as a robber baron's nest.

In 1607, the Capler von Oedheim, also known as Bautz, acquired the manor and passed it on in 1615 to the Mainz bailiff Erhard von Muggenthal zu Krautheim, whose family originated from Bavaria. From 1615 to 1629, the castle was rebuilt under Erhard von Muggenthal in the Renaissance style as a three-story, four-wing complex. In 1775, the last von Muggenthal was murdered. Via Brandenburg, the property came into the possession of the Barons von Racknitz in 1777. In the 19th century, parts of the castle were demolished and it was restored from 1987 to 1988.

In recent years, Ingo Eben von Racknitz had many of the magnificent facade paintings of the castle, which picturesquely blends into the landscape and offers a wide view of the valley, restored. Some rooms are available for the Hohenloher Kultursommer concert series.
