In Steyr, Upper Austria, Lamberg Castle stands, a structure that emerged from the historic Styraburg. This castle not only gave its name to the city of Steyr but also to the federal state of Styria. Today, the castle serves as a venue for cultural events.

History+

The origins of Lamberg Castle date back to the early 10th century, when the Styraburg was built and first documented in 985. It was owned by the Traungau counts, the Otakars, and served as the residence of Otakar II from 1079. Through the Georgenberg Charter, the castle passed to the Babenbergs in 1192 and later to the Habsburgs. In 1666, the Lamberg family acquired the estate, whose name the castle still bears today. After a fire in 1727, the complex was rebuilt under the direction of Johann Michael Prunner.
