Landgut Lohn Castle (Kehrsatz)

The Lohn estate was originally owned by Samuel Bondeli, a German treasurer and bailiff, whose family was granted Bernese citizenship in 1534. After his death in 1693, he exchanged the country estate with his son-in-law Franz Ludwig Lerber. Through his daughter Maria, the estate passed to the Hackbrett family and later to Samuel Tscharner. In 1740, Abraham Tscharner's son Abraham inherited the property. His second wife bore two daughters, of whom Henriette Marie Charlotte inherited the Lohn estate. Her husband, Beat Emanuel Tscharner, had the present distinguished neoclassical manor house built by Carolus Ahasverus von Sinner in 1782/83. After his death in 1826, the estate passed to his son Karl Emanuel von Tscharner. Later, after the death of his childless widow, nephews and nieces inherited the property. In 1897, the owners sold the manor house to the legal historian Friedrich Emil Welti. After his death in 1940 and the passing of his widow, the Landgut Lohn fell to the Swiss Confederation in 1956.

The Landgut Lohn Castle is located in Kehrsatz in the Bern-Mittelland district, Canton Bern, Switzerland, at an altitude of approx. 554 m above sea level.

Today, the Landgut Lohn serves as a prestigious guesthouse for the Swiss Federal Council and hosts state guests from all over the world.
