Langburkersdorf Castle

The first documented mention of the Langburkersdorf manor dates back to 1423, when it was owned by Leuthold von Luttitz, the bailiff of Hohnstein. In 1564, Georg von Wehse acquired the property. A fire destroyed the building in 1584, but a new house was erected on the same site in 1611, surrounded by a pond. In 1870, Baron von Stieglitz purchased the castle and used it as a hunting lodge. King Friedrich August visited the castle in 1906. In 1925, the entire estate was sold to the Landesversicherung Sachsen, which, after structural alterations, converted it into a retirement home. During the 1930s and 1940s, it served as a convalescent home. Between 1947 and 1966, the castle was used for post-treatment care of tuberculosis patients from the Hohwaldklinik.
