Langenburg Castle

The first documented mention of Langenburg as "castrum et oppidum" dates to around 1226. As early as 1235, the complex underwent renovations, with the two round towers dating from this period. In the 15th century, the castle was expanded into a fortress for artillery. Between 1610 and 1616, it was transformed into a princely residence, whose Renaissance style, particularly in the inner courtyard with its galleries and stair towers, is preserved. A third construction phase between 1757 and 1759 introduced Baroque elements and the construction of two bridges over the deep moats. In January 1963, a major fire destroyed parts of the east and north wings, which were rebuilt by 1968.
