In Baden-Württemberg, Langenburg Castle is situated on a mountain spur above the Jagst Valley. It is an example of the evolution of a medieval castle into a residential palace, still inhabited today by the Hohenlohe-Langenburg family.

History+

The first documented mention of Langenburg as a “castrum et oppidum” dates to around 1226. From 1235, the original castle underwent expansion and reinforcement, with the two prominent round towers dating from this construction period. In the 15th century, the complex was transformed into a fortress to meet the demands of emerging firearms. Another renovation between 1610 and 1616 converted it into a princely residence in the Renaissance style, whose inner courtyard with galleries, gables, and stair towers is preserved.
