Langwiesen Castle (Ruppach-Goldhausen)

The history of the place "Langewiese" dates back to 1444. The village shrank until only the agricultural core remained as a manor. In the mid-16th century, the manor came into the possession of the von Irmtraut family through marriage, who soon after built a moated castle with four corner towers. This castle not only served representative purposes but also had a defensive function as a protective fortress with its wide moat. In 1647, the property was sold to an administrator named Pergener from Montabaur. In 1680, the entire estate changed hands for 6000 Reichstaler and went to Eremund Reichsfreiherr von Esch.
