Schloss Lankowitz+
History+
Foundation and Early Owners
Schloss Lankowitz was built in 1440 by Knight Georg Gradner. In 1459, the castle fell to Emperor Frederick III, and in 1460 to Andreas Greißenegger. From 1511-1634, the castle belonged to the Herberstein family, then to Stainz Abbey.
Later Use
Since 1855, the castle has been used as an external branch of the Graz-Karlau Correctional Facility. Since the 1990s, parts of the castle have also been rented out for residential purposes. Previously, a wide moat surrounded the entire castle.
