Lasserhof Castle

The Lasserhof, also known as Metzgermayerhof, Hotel Kaiserhof, Rupertihof or Schlosshotel St. Rupert, and most recently Gwandhaus, is a castle on the Hellbrunner Allee in Salzburg. Today it houses the headquarters of the traditional costume manufacturer Gössl, a traditional costume museum, and a restaurant.

Country Estate and Order's Foundation

Like the surrounding estates on Hellbrunner Allee, the Hof was also built before 1650 and was originally called Lasserhof. The first owners of the castle were the Dückher family, and from 1677, the Counts of Martinitz.

After Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun founded or established the Rupertiorden (Knights' Order of Saint Rupert), an order tasked with promotion, Johann Ernst Thun also bequeathed this estate to the order. The high-ranking members of the order were committed to celibacy. Only after the abolition of the knightly order in 1811 did the estate return to private ownership.

In the 19th century, it received a Neo-Baroque facade and was extended several times, in 1931 with a first historicizing wing extension designed by the renowned master builder Martin Knoll.

Hotel Kaiserhof and Schlosshotel St. Rupert

In 1952, it was converted into a hotel, first known as Kaiserhof and then, from 1967, called Rupertihof. The castle received the name Rupertihof in revival of an earlier name after Rupert von Imhof, the owner after 1867. Most recently, the building operated as Schlosshotel St. Rupert.

The Current Gwandhaus

The current company headquarters of the traditional costume manufacturer Gössl recently received the name Gwandhaus. In 2004, another castle wing was added, into which the owner Gerhard Gössl had a ballroom installed.

The Gössl traditional costume shop itself is located on the top floor of the former manor house. Connected is a small house museum, which displays traditional costumes from bygone eras, handicraft art, and exhibits from the Alpine cultural region. The restaurant is also located in the Gwandhaus. The building is also available as an event venue.
