Lauchstädt Castle is located in Bad Lauchstädt in the Saalekreis district, Saxony-Anhalt. Originally evolving from a castle, it was transformed into a Renaissance palace and once served as a ducal residence.

History+

The first documented mention of Lauchstädt as the tithe-paying locality of Lochstat appears between 881 and 899 in a register of Hersfeld Abbey. From 1341, the settlement was a fief of the Dukes of Braunschweig, before passing to the Bishops of Merseburg in 1370. They granted the town city rights in 1430 and, in the 16th century, expanded an existing castle into a Renaissance palace.
