In the municipality of Neukirchen/Pleiße stands Lauterbach Castle. This structure, originally built in the Neo-Renaissance style, gained cultural significance through its later Art Nouveau redesign.

History+

Lauterbach Castle was erected in 1884 as the manor house of the Lauterbach estate, characterized by the Neo-Renaissance style. Between 1907 and 1909, the interior of the castle underwent a transformation dedicated to Art Nouveau. These works were shaped by the Belgian architect and designer Henry van de Velde. The Esche family owned the property until its expropriation in 1945. Some of the interiors designed by van de Velde have been preserved in their original form to this day.
