The origins of Le Crest Castle likely date back to the 13th century, when a predecessor building stood on this site. This earlier structure was completely destroyed in 1590. The current castle was rebuilt in 1621 by Théodore Agrippa d'Aubigné. An exception is the square keep, which was added later, in 1880.
