History+

The origins of Ledenburg Castle presumably date back to the 15th century. It was built after the destruction of Holter Castle under the name Neue Burg Holte. The Leden family used it as their residence, from which the name Ledenburg Castle later developed. In 1618, the castle suffered severe damage from a fire but was rebuilt between 1618 and 1627. After the extinction of the Leden family, ownership temporarily passed to the von Hammerstein family, who also owned Gesmold Castle, and later to the Counts of Münster. Since 1951, the castle has been owned by the Homann manufacturing family from Dissen.
