In Baden near Vienna, Leesdorf Castle is now an educational center and home to the HTL Painting School. Originally a moated castle, it combines Romanesque roots with Baroque elegance.

History+

The first documented mention of the Leesdorf estate, then a moated castle, occurred in 1114 in connection with Hugo von Leuisdorf. After various changes of ownership, including the Kastner family and the Wallseer, it became princely property before being sold to Melk Abbey in 1617. During the Turkish Wars around 1683, the castle suffered significant damage. Under Abbot Berthold Dietmayr, a Baroque renovation took place at the beginning of the 18th century, transforming the Romanesque structure into a castle. In 1851, Melk Abbey sold the property to the Viennese lawyer Dr. Stanislaus Neumister, who converted it into a spa hotel.
