Lehsen Castle

Lehsen was first documented in 1233. Until 1690, the area was a fief of the von Blücher family. In 1638, this family was granted permission to fell trees to rebuild the then-ruined Lehsen estate. From 1690, the von Laffert family acquired landholdings in western Mecklenburg and received the feudal letter for the Lehsen estate in 1701. Under Court Councillor Ludolph Friedrich von Laffert, who also acquired the Dammereez fief in 1769, changes occurred. His son, Chamberlain Ernst August von Laffert, had the current manor house built in 1822 by the Danish architect Joseph Christian Lillie. During this period, other buildings such as lodging houses, coach houses, and stables were constructed in the park. A feature was the hydrotherapy institution, which offered water cures from 1847.
