In the eastern part of the municipality of Leimbach in the Wartburg district is Leimbach Castle. Originally built as the manor house of an estate, it now serves as a residential and commercial building.

History+

The early history of Leimbach Castle is only fragmentarily documented. In the Middle Ages, the locality of Leimbach was the ancestral seat of a noble family, the von Leimbach, whose existence is recorded between 1146 and 1478. After the extinction of this family, the property passed to the von Haun family from Bad Salzungen, from whom it was later transferred to the von Buttlar zu Wildprechtroda family.
