Lerchen Castle, a historic residence, is located in Radstadt in the Austrian province of Salzburg. Originally built as a tower, it has undergone numerous transformations and now houses a local history museum.

History+

The first documented mention of Lerchen Castle dates back to 1289, when it existed as a tower. During the peasant uprisings in 1525/26, the building was captured, plundered, and set on fire by rebellious peasants. Reconstruction began in 1530 under Michael Wilpendorfer, whose descendants owned the castle until 1633. After several changes of ownership, including Johann Schmiedinger and Joseph Christoph Ziurletti von Lerchen, the property came into the possession of the Salzburg Court Chamber in 1779, which expanded it into an official and residential seat for the chief hunter. A bay window on the east facade, with the coat of arms of Archbishop Colloredo and the year 1779, dates from this period.
