Lerchenhof Castle

Lerchenhof Castle is a building constructed between 1848 and 1851 as a manorial seat in Untermöschach, a village in the municipality of Hermagor-Pressegger See in Carinthia. The building, which has been a protected monument since 17795, is now used as an inn and hotel.

Lerchenhof is located in Untermöschach on the road to Weißbriach, approximately two kilometers from the city center of Hermagor. The building was constructed from 1848 to 1851 as the manorial seat for Baron Julius von Wodley, son of the mining industrialist Bartholomäus Wodley, who had died a few years earlier, for his upcoming marriage. The master builder was probably Domenico Venchiarutti. However, Wodley died in a hunting accident before the completion of Lerchenhof. Through inheritance and marriage, Lerchenhof came into the possession of the directly adjacent Steinwender-Hof. In 1928, the entire property of the Steinwender estate was divided between two sons. Hans Steinwender took over Lerchenhof. He managed the agricultural business, earned special merits in horse breeding, and did a lot of public relations work. Lerchenhof is still owned by his descendants today.

In 1939, Lerchenhof was placed under monument protection. It is officially referred to as "Schloss Lerchenhof" by the Office for Monument Protection. Today, the building is used as an inn and hotel under the name "Biedermeier Schlössl Lerchenhof".
