In Carinthia, Lerchenhof Castle represents late Classicist and Biedermeier architecture. Originally conceived as a stately residence, it now serves as a hotel and guesthouse.

History+

The construction of Lerchenhof Castle took place between 1848 and 1851. It was planned as a residence for Baron Julius von Wodley, on the occasion of his impending marriage. Wodley died in a hunting accident before the castle was completed. Through inheritance and marriage, Lerchenhof later came into the possession of the neighboring Steinwender farm. In 1928, the estate was divided, with Hans Steinwender taking over Lerchenhof. He continued the agricultural operation and gained recognition in horse breeding. Since 1939, the castle has been a protected monument and remains to this day in the possession of the Steinwender descendants.
