Les Bois Castle (Satigny)
In Satigny, Canton of Geneva, Château Les Bois is a historic estate whose history is closely intertwined with the Turrettin family. Originally conceived as a representative residence without military function, it was built by its creators as a sign of their role in the Republic of Geneva.
History+
The history of Château Les Bois begins with the Turrettini family, who fled Italy for Geneva in the 16th century to escape the Inquisition. Francesco Turrettini, a silk merchant, settled in Geneva. His son Jean Turrettin acquired a large area near Satigny in 1631, which was named “Les Bois” due to its forests. The ownership also came with manorial rights, including high jurisdiction. Jean Turrettin had the château built as a pleasure residence, although he lost a large part of his fortune through a failed major project. The estate was passed down through generations within the family and renovated and modernized in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, it is inhabited by Guy van Berchem, a descendant of the Turrettins.

Château Les Bois is currently privately owned and serves as the residence of the Turrettin family. The estate covers over 110 hectares, including forests, agricultural land, and vineyards. Since 1996, wines have been produced and sold under its own label.
