History+
A castle Les Roches-Baritaud is already attested in the 13th century. At that time, it was owned by Jean de Chateaubriand. The castle and the later 15th-century château remained in the possession of the Châteaubriant family until 1738. It was then acquired by Jean-Antoine Olivier de Sénozan, Comte de Sénozan and Lord of the Marquisate of Rosany, Conseiller d’État and Président au Parlement de Paris, and his wife Anne Nicole de Lamoignon (1718–1794), daughter of Guillaume de Lamoignon, Chancellor of France, and Anne Élisabeth Roujault. In 1756, Claude de Beauharnais de Beaumont (1717–1784) bought the castle (see Beauharnais family tree), who was appointed Comte des Roches-Baritaud in 1759. His son is Claude de Beauharnais (1756–1819), Comte des Roches-Baritaud and Pair de France, his granddaughter is Stéphanie de Beauharnais (1789–1860), the adopted daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte and Grand Duchess of Baden. In 1817, Félix Marchegay de Lousigny (1776–1853) bought the castle. Les Roches-Baritaud Castle was partially listed as a historical monument on June 12, 1957.
