Leubnitz Castle, a structure in Saxony, stands on the foundations of a medieval moated castle. It defines the townscape of Leubnitz, a district of Werdau.

History+

The origins of Leubnitz date back to around 1200, when the area was settled as a Waldhufendorf during the East Colonization. The founders built an early German moated castle. On its foundations, the current castle was erected in 1870. In the 15th century, the Wettins took control of the land, which had previously likely belonged to the Vögte von Weida. In April 1945, the US Army occupied the town and used the castle and the manor house as a collection camp for prisoners of war.
