Liebburg Castle (Oberhofen)

The old Liebburg was first mentioned in 1426 as the property of a Johannes von Schwarzenbach. 50 years later, the Bishop of Constance handed over the castle as a fief to the mayor of Constance, Ulrich Blarer (the Rich). From 1550, Liebburg belonged to the Reichlin von Meldegg, later to the Lords of Ulm. Around 1600, a castle chapel was established and mass was reintroduced, although the majority of the population remained with the new faith. After 1700, the Cathedral Chapter of Constance owned the Liebburg. However, according to tradition, it was destroyed by an earthquake.

The current castle dates from the second half of the 18th century and came into private ownership in 1803. During a renovation around 1899, it received the lantern-like structure and the current facade with the stepped gable. In the 20th century, the owner changed 18 times. The current owner (since 1970) has renovated the castle.
